Transactional Leadership: (Give/Take)
Contingent Rewards- (Performance)
-Exchanging rewards for services rendered—Performance based.
Active Management by Exception- (Proactive)
-Actively monitors performance and takes action as soon as problems become apparent.
-Takes away the initiative of the subordinates.
-Micromanages
Passive management by exception- (Reactive)
-Only intervenes when objectives have not been met, or after the problems have become serious.
Laissez-faire- (Inactive)
-Avoid expressing their views, or taking action on important issues, fail to make or at least delay decisions, ignore responsibilities, provide no feedback, and allow authority to remain dormant.
--The absence of leadership altogether.
-Nondirective, passive, inactive style.
Transformational Leadership:
Idealized influence- (Role-Model)
-Provides a role-model for high ethical behavior
-Instills pride & gains respect & trust.
-Builds trust for acceptance of fundamental and radical changes.
-Sharing risks with followers.
-Uses power to move individuals or groups toward accomplishing their mission.
Inspirational motivation- (Optimistic)
-Comes primarily from leader behavior provides meaning and challenge for the followers.
-Challenge followers with high standards
-Communicate optimism about future goals.
-Provide meaning for the task at hand.
-Provides the energy to drive the group forward.
-Clearly communicating to the followers that the vision is attainable.
Intellectual stimulation- (Considerate)
-Stimulate and encourage creativity among their followers.
-Approaches old situations in new ways.
-They provide followers with an inspiring mission and vision and give them an identity
-Nothing is too perfect that it cannot be challenged, changed, or cleared out.
-Constantly looking for problems to fix.
-Involves followers in decision making.
Individualized consideration- (Differentiated)
-Listens to followers needs.
-Keeps communication open.
-Observes, listens, or finds meaningful ways to motivate based on the individual needs of each person.
-Based on the needs of the subordinates.
