Hey Tri-Beta-ers,

Looking for a service credit? Interested in helping save lives?

February 25th (Wednesday)
11am-6pm #rd floor of Baker
Bone Marrow Donor Drive

It's quick and easy. A simple cheek swab and one form. In conjunction with
the bone marrow donor drive we ask that you give at one of the many blood
drives on campus, now to the end of the school year. These two simple,
life-saving events will get you 1 service credit and that warm feeling you
get when you volunteer!!

**A little more information about the bone marrow donor drive for those who
are interested:

This bone marrow donor drive is in hopes to find a match for Amy Katz, who
was diagnosed in 2003 with leukemia when she was 11 years old.
Unfortunately, she has been unable to find a bone marrow donor match for
the past 5 years. Please come and help Amy out as well as being part of the
National Marrow Registry. It’s a simple cheek swab!

There are two ways bone marrow transplants occur if you are found to be a
match, one of which is through aphaeresis (just like donating blood). That
(called PBSC) is used 70-80% of the time. The other way, which is used only
20-30% of the time, involves the marrow being taken from your lower back.
However, you will be given local or general anesthesia for the procedure,
so you will feel no pain! I have been told that after the transplant, it
feels as if you fell on your butt on ice and have a big bruise. The
soreness will last only 1-5 days...I think a sore tush for a few days is
worth it to save a life!!!

Here is her website for more information: http://www.amysarmy.org

Thanks,
Angela Marko
