Office of Conferences and Pryzbyla Management Summer Conference Intern

The Catholic University of America (CUA) is unique as the national university of the Catholic Church, and the only higher education institution founded by the U.S. bishops.  It is committed to being a comprehensive Catholic and American institution of higher learning.

Today the private and coeducational campus has approximately 3,600 undergraduate and 3,300 graduate students from all 50 states and 85 countries enrolled in 12 schools of architecture and planning, arts and sciences, canon law, engineering, law, library and information science, music, nursing, philosophy, professional studies, social service, and theology and religious studies.  Eighty-one percent of undergraduates and 59 percent of graduate students are Catholic.

Located near the heart of Washington, D.C., CUA is three miles north of the U.S. Capitol and numerous D.C. attractions, such as Union Station, the Smithsonian museums, and a multitude of national monuments.

The Office of Conferences and Pryzbyla Management (CPM) provides premier conference services for a wide variety of external clients, while offering great value and service to accommodate both large and small scale conferences and events.  The university and conference facilities are within walking distance to the Brookland/CUA metro stop on the Red Line.

CPM manages a variety of programs, services, and facilities which support the CUA community as well as university guests, prospective families, and external groups. These include:
•         Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center management
•         Co-curricular events and space scheduling
•         Information services
•         Conference services
•         Technical services
•         Large format printing
•         Summer housing for CUA students
•         Intern housing for non-CUA students
•         Web registration and sales

CPM Summer Conference Intern will have the opportunity to work with the Office of Conferences and Pryzbyla Management staff to plan and execute events in the Pryzbyla Center, as well as assist with the day-to-day operations of the facility.  The Intern will have the opportunity to work on multiple facets of the overall CPM operations, including conference services and intern housing for non-CUA students, as well as the possibility of additional and/or supplemental experiences around campus.  The ideal start date would be Sunday, May 12, 2013.

Responsibilities:
CPM Summer Intern will have the following responsibilities:
•         Collaborate with student staff to ensure successful delivery of event set-up services in the Pryzbyla Center and other campus spaces as necessary
•         Aid in the scheduling of student staff supporting the operation of the Pryzbyla Center
•         Create set-up diagrams for events utilizing MS Visio and other software as needed
•         Work with requestors of space in the Pryzbyla Center to help plan their events, including room layout and AV needs
•         Utilize the university’s scheduling software, CollegeNet’s Resource25, to input event details and resources
•         Coordinate the follow up of requested maintenance performed in the Pryzbyla Center
•         Be on site for critical university events to help oversee their successful execution, which may require evening or weekend hours
•         First-hand experience in the management and operation of a university center’s activities, programs, and services
•         On-the-job training with exposure to various operations and programs
•         Experience with different supervisory styles from a variety of campus professionals
•         New perspectives on the role of the university center by working on a new campus and within a new facility
•         Effective communication and collaboration skills through working with a diverse university center staff
•         Enhanced leadership skills through structured experiences and projects
•         First-rate experience at an urban, religiously affiliated, private institution
•         Follow policies and procedures of CPM staff and policies of The Catholic University of America
•         Perform other duties as assigned by CPM staff

Hours and Compensation:
•         Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm – with occasional night and/or weekend responsibility; 35 hour work week
•         $367.50 per week, computed at $10.50 per hour
•         Single furnished (bed, desk/chair) bedroom, with private bathroom, air-conditioning, laundry facilities, wireless access
•         Complimentary membership to the Kane Fitness Center
•         Ideal start date:  Sunday, May 12, 2013

•         The ability to learn and use various software packages
•         High attention to detail and developed organizational skills
•         Reliable and dependable
•         Highly motivated, self-directed, responsible, mature and flexible
