Students

There will be an information session on the Education Abroad Summer program
to Australia on Wednesday February 10, 2010 at 3:30 pm in Room 311 of
McCracken Hall. Please plan to attend even if you are unsure of whether you
are interested in this opportunity or not. Please come and discuss this with
me individually as well.

Lori Lammert from Education Abroad will be available to answer your
questions about the application process. She will also provide information
on possible scholarships you could apply for. 

The program in Australia is tentatively scheduled for July 6 - July 22. The
plan is to spend 2 days/nights in Sydney and 10 or 11 days in Brisbane.
Accommodation in Brisbane will be at the University of Queensland (UQ).
Accommodation in Sydney will be either at a youth hostel or hotel. In
Brisbane, UQ has offered us a rate of $70 per night for accommodation + 3
meals. This is a very cost effective offer.

Masters students will have to enroll for a total of 9 credits in EDCE 610
(Field Experience in Counseling) and EDCE 621 (Readings and Research). Both
of these classes are approved by the Ohio CSWMFT Board for Area IV or V
electives. Doctoral students will have to enroll for a total of 9 credits in
EDCE 823 (Readings and Research), EDCE 761 (Practicum in Counselor
Education) or EDCE 610 (Field Experience in Counseling). Students can expect
to be required to complete work related to these courses before and after
the trip.

Students who hold a tuition waiver in Spring 2010 will be able to obtain a
tuition waiver in Summer 2010 that they can apply to these courses. The fees
for the trip covers airfare (Australia is probably the most expensive
destination from the USA), most meals, and transportation. There are other
charges that you may or may not have to budget for (such as the cost of
obtaining a passport).

We really need you to think about this seriously NOW. The deadline to get
your application in is March 3, 2010, and your deposit of $500 is due by
March 17, 2010. We have to pay a deposit to secure accommodation. The sooner
you are able to get your application in the better deal we can get on travel
bookings. As you know travel becomes more expensive closer to the date of
travel.
