Interception Final Samantha Howell

Natural System-Relations-oriented, -Professional Structure

A natural system is a more relaxed type of system. Everyone may not have
the same goals. An example would be different grade levels will have
different standards to be met and they will have the freedom to meet those
goals in any way that they can. It is not just about routines or policies.
The employees are taken into consideration. Leaders give attention and
respect to the interests to the employees. The Natural System is definitely
relations-oriented. There are still goals in place but the people are the
main importance and making sure their needs are met. The complex humanity
is an important factor in guiding employees. The manager/leader would
identify individual needs of employees.

Relations-oriented is the opposite of task-oriented leadership. Natural
systems and relations-oriented fits perfectly into the Perceptual lenses of
Human Resources. In Natural systems, the leaders believe that the primary
task of management is to create a good fit between individuals and the
organization. Motivation includes both external and internal factors.
Everyone works together and empowers each other. This is where Symbolic
leadership also fits into these three things. The interception between
Natural and Relations-oriented/Professional Structure is very clear in that
it is all about relationships between staff and their leader.

The Professional Structure allows freedom among staff to work together and
be involved in decision-making. There is trust and respect between staff
and the leader. Policies and procedures are in place for thing to run
smoothly but the staff is given some freedom to carry out changes in their
own way or just do their job and be creative. All three of these attributes
are relations-oriented and are about relationships. They are all
transformational. These all fit into the theories for Warner Burke’s
organizational change. In order for change to happen, relationships have to
be strong and individuals needs have to be taken into account. Senge’s
theory is also about effective communication so that change can happen more
easily. If staff knows the expectations and the change trying to be made,
they can work together more effectively to accomplish their goals.

All of these factors intercept together and have to do with relationships
between the leader and their staff. Also in order for things to get
accomplished, a positive environment needs to be in place and there needs
to be clear expectations and policies and procedures in place.
