Greetings Retail Merchandising and Fashion Product Development Students...
As you plan your academic programs, you may be interested in two new opportunities: a Certificate in Entrepreneurship and a Minor in Customer Service.
The Certificate in Entrepreneurship is offered by the College of Business and is open to all students at Ohio University.
It consists of three MGT courses:
MGT 3550 Creativity and Innovation Management
MGT 3700: Introduction to Entrepreneurship
MGT 3730: Entrepreneurial Business Consulting
And then two additional courses from:
FIN 4520 Entrepreneurial Finance
MGT 3650 International Market Assessment and Entry
MGT 3720: Technology Commercialization
MGT 3450: Entrepreneurial Leadership
BUSL 3780 Legal Aspects of Entrepreneurship
MKT 4900 Entrepreneurial Sales
The Minor in Customer Service is offered by the Department of Human and Consumer Sciences in The Patton College. It consists of five courses:
CONS 2500: Families as Consumers in Global Communities
CONS 3100: HR for Customer Service Professions
CONS 3890 Career Development for Customer Service Professions OR RFPD 3890 Professional Career Search Strategies
CONS 4953: Workshop in Customer Service
CONS 4915: Internship in Customer Service (3-12 hours)
As you can see, with the RFPD major, you practically have a built in Customer Service Minor. You would need to complete one additional "course" - the customer service workshop and an internship (beyond the major work experiences for RFDP). The Customer Service Internship can be between three (3) and 12 credit hours. A three credit internship would require a minimum of 100 hours of work, but could be a full time internship of 40 hours for a minimum of 10 weeks (400 hours).
The business minor and the sales certificate continue to be available to students, too.
To declare either of these programs, or any other certificate and minor, you go to YOUR OWN COLLEGE student services office (for Patton College students that is McCracken Hall main lobby).
Please feel free to direct any questions to me - or discuss with your academic advisor!
