The Southern Climate Impacts Planning Program (SCIPP) in the Department of Geography and Anthropology at Louisiana State University seeks to fill a Research Associate position. The successful candidate will be the Research Climatologist or Program Manager (depending on qualifications) for the NOAA Regional Integrated Sciences and Assessments (RISA) project focused on the analysis and impacts of climatic hazards in the south-central United States.
Responsibilities:
Research Associate 3: The Research Climatologist will provide professional support to the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration-funded program.
The Research Climatologist will be expected to engage climate-related stakeholders in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas, including government agencies, private businesses, and individuals. The candidate will be responsible for fostering interconnections between stakeholders and SCIPP scientists. The Research Climatologist will interact with the public as well as climatologists and computer specialists at the Southern Regional Climate Center, the Louisiana Office of State Climatology, and partners at the University of Oklahoma. The successful candidate will also conduct applied research relevant to the project stakeholders and assist in maintaining our SURGEDAT storm surge database.
Required Qualifications:
Research Associate 3: Bachelor's degree in environmental science, meteorology, climatology, or physical geography or related field; two years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Research Associate 3: Master's degree; verbal and written communications skills and be willing to interact with people having diverse technical and non-technical backgrounds. Expertise in coastal issues and research preferred, experience with climate data interpretation and analysis and graphical data presentation.
