Dear All -
We are pleased to announce that the National Science Foundation has funded an interdisciplinary REU Site: "Cyber-HealthGIS - Multidisciplinary Research Experiences in Spatial Dynamics of Health" at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX for the 2016 - 2018 summers.
http://cyberhealthgis.tamu.edu
This 10 week program invites undergraduate students from all disciplines who are interested in pursuing research at the intersections of technology, geospatial analysis, mapping & visualization, and human health and well-being.
The program seeks to bring together 10 undergraduate students for each of the next three summers, with 1/3 coming from Geography & GIS, 1/3 from Computer Science & Engineering, and 1/3 from Public Health and Pre-Med programs. Students from allied STEM disciplines with interests that match the program are invited to apply as well. All you need is a passion for geography, technology, and/or health!
Students will be placed into interdisciplinary teams to investigate research topics which include:
* Web and Mobile GIS Programming and Mapping for In Situ Data Collection and Analysis
* HPC and Supercomputing for Disease Transmission Modelling
* Social Media Analysis for Leading-Edge Outbreak Detection
* Volunteered Geographic Information for Food Desert Identification
* BIG Data for Spatially-Enabled Individual & Public Health Investigations
In addition, this program will bring together leading faculty in these and other research areas (one during each of the 10 weeks) to provide mentoring and guidance to students as they develop and execute their interdisciplinary team-based research projects.
Participating students will be provided with funding for a stipend/salary for the whole summer, funding for housing and meals during summer-long program, and funding for transportation to and from College Station TX. College freshman, sophomores, and juniors as well those who will be graduating in December of 2016 are welcome to apply.
Please see our website for complete details about the program and the application process: http://cyberhealthgis.tamu.edu
The application deadline for priority review is March 25, 2016 so please apply as soon as you can!!
We are particularly seeking to recruit members of underrepresented groups in science which include but are not limited to women, persons of color or other minority groups, veterans, persons with disabilities, as well as those from two- and four-year College and Universities that do not provide students with opportunities to engage in undergraduate research.
