CALL FOR AUTHORS: Journal for Specialists in Group Work
Special Issue - Group Work with African Americans Children and Adolescents

The Journal for Specialists in Group Work invites articles for a Special Issue on Group Work with African American Children and Adolescents. The Journal for Specialists in Group Work has never published a special issue focused solely on this population. This current special issue is narrowly focused; however, we are certain that the intersection of race, ethnicity, culture, gender and socioeconomic status and so forth, will surface in the research and scholarship as we provide a platform in which to do so. This special issue will explore both research and practice, with an emphasis on innovative ideas. The purpose of this special issue is to synthesize contributions representing a range of issues that are important to this unique population of African American children and adolescents. Authors are asked to contribute conceptual or empirical articles that address the call for an increased focus on using group work to address the many needs of this growing population in the US. In addition to the sample consisting primarily on African American children and/or adolescents, manuscripts should be focused one or more of the following areas:
Socioeconomic status
Resiliency
College and Career Readiness
Strengths-Based approaches
Grief and Trauma
Wellness
Social/Emotional Development
Gender and/or Identity Development
Academic Achievement
Counselor Education, Training and/or Preparation
Group Leadership
Incarceration
Career Development
Racism and Social Justice
Intersection of Identities
