The co-authors of the book Marriage and Schizophrenia: Eyes on the Prize, Andrew and Stephanie Downing, chose to marry and have children in spite of a full awareness that he had already been diagnosed with schizophrenia. The Downings will discuss the challenge they faced and the tools they used in moving Andrew into recovery - spirituality, non-confrontational communication, fine-tuning of therapy and medication with specialists, the acceptance of limitations, and work with NAMI.
