Dear Colleague,

Research Invitation

Dear Counselor Educators, Counseling Practitioners and/or Students:

Thank you for your attention to this research invitation. Your contribution to this study is critical for helping re-validate the Spiritual Competency Scale (developed by Dr. Linda Robertson), which is designed to measure counseling professionals' degree of spiritual competency.

This study welcomes participants from all counseling related fields, including but not limited to counselor educators, counseling practitioners, and/or counseling students. The study will be conducted in the form of an online questionnaire.

The first page of this questionnaire includes an informed consent, which reiterates the purpose of the survey, as well as the rights of the participants. Once you review the consent, should you decide to participate, you can click the "Next" button and begin participating.

The online questionnaire includes a demographic section, which asks basic background information such as gender and age, a section including items in the Spiritual Competency Scale, and a section including items in the Multicultural Counseling Knowledge and Awareness Scale, which serves to provide validity information regarding the Spiritual Competency Scale. You may skip any questions in the questionnaire that you do not wish to answer.

The entire study will take 15-20 minutes to complete. [Study link: https://universityofalabama.az1.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_7WFsSrgYwCIjenz

The study has been approved by the University of Alabama Institutional Review Board (a committee that reviews and approves research studies).

The major concerns in regards to your participation are given to:
(1) No harm to you;
(2) Freedom of participation; and
(3) Confidentiality of data.

First of all, this study runs the minimum risk to negatively influence you as a participant since the purpose of this study is more toward the scale itself rather than collecting sensitive data (such as unique religious beliefs) about participants.

Second, taking part in this study is completely voluntary. If you decide not to be in this study, or if you stop participating at any time, you won't be penalized or lose any benefits for which you otherwise qualify.

If you do not wish to participate in the study, you may close your web browser window without submitting the survey.

Finally, your confidentiality will be protected through the following; (a) your name and any identifiable information will not be collected, and (b) the principle researcher will use a secure web site to collect the study information and password protected computers to store the study information.

You will not benefit personally from being in this study. You will not have any costs for being in this research study. You will not be paid for being in this research study. However, we hope that others may benefit in the future from what we learn as a result of this study.

If you decide to join the study, please click the link: https://universityofalabama.az1.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_7WFsSrgYwCIjenz

If you have questions regarding this study, please feel free to contact the researchers at jlu at bamaed.ua.edu<mailto:jlu at bamaed.ua.edu> or 205-348-9243.

Thank you very much for your consideration.
