Clinical Mental Health Counseling

The George Washington University's Department of Counseling and Human Development is seeking applicants for a tenure-accruing position at the Assistant Professor level, with primary responsibility in the Master's Program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling beginning August 2014. The Counseling and Human Development Department has a strong identity in diversity, disability, and human development research. The university's new strategic plan calls for action across four cross-cutting themes: Innovation through cross-disciplinary collaboration; globalization of educational and research programs; expansion of programs with a focus on governance and policy in public and private sectors; and an emphasis on infusing ideas of citizenship and leadership among faculty.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be able to teach across the core CACREP curriculum at both master's and doctoral levels, with colleagues in a CORE-accredited rehabilitation counseling program and a CACREP/NCATE accredited school counseling program.

Basic Qualifications. All applicants must have:
(1)        An earned doctorate in counselor education from a CACREP accredited program, or an earned doctorate in a related field such as counseling psychology, with a history of full time employment in a counselor education program for at least 12 consecutive months prior to September 2013;
(2)        Demonstrated excellence in effective teaching and supervision of master's and doctoral level students as evidenced by peer or student evaluations; and,
(3)        A research agenda that focuses on at risk populations, such as addictions; trauma and its co-morbidities; violence and antisocial behaviors with demonstrated potential for engaging in externally funded research.
