Georgia Southern University, a member institution of the University System of Georgia, invites nominations and applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Counselor Education in the Department of Leadership, Technology and Human Development in the College of Education.
Position Description:
Reporting to the department chair, the assistant professor’s responsibilities include teaching courses in Counselor Education, advising students, conducting scholarly research and publishing, and providing service to the University, community, and profession. The position requires a terminal degree and is a 9-month, tenure-track appointment with possible summer employment opportunities, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications:
· Earned doctorate in Counselor Education by August 1, 2012.
· The ability to teach graduate courses on- and off-campus and offer graduate advisement.
· The ability to conduct scholarly research, publish, and perform service.
· Background in professional school counseling.
· Demonstrated commitment to cross-cultural curricula.
· The ability to work with diverse student populations.
· The ability to use and model technology.
· Effective communication and leadership skills.
· Minimum of 2 years experience as a professional school counselor in an elementary, middle, or high school.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Graduate of a CACREP accredited program in counseling.
· Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating an ASCA Model (RAMP) developmental school counseling program.
· Active professional membership in ASCA and state school counseling associations.
· Successful external grant writing.
· Experience teaching using distance education technology.
· Licensure eligibility as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia.
· Experience teaching via distance education
Screening of applications begins October 15, 2011 and continues until the position is filled. The position starting date is August 1, 2012. A complete application
