Employment and Disability Institute – Extension Support Specialist I
Description
The ILR School is seeking an Extension Support Specialist I – Employment 
echnical Assistance Specialist for the Employment and Disability Institute in 
he ILR School.
This position serves across multiple grant funded projects within the Institute.  
his will include working with the Northeast ADA Center (NEADA), a Federally 
unded grant from
he National Institute of Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), US 
epartment of Education; and the National Technical Assistance, Policy and 
esearch Center for
mployers on Employment of People with Disabilities, a Federally funded grant 
rom the Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), US Department of Labor.
This position will provide complex phone, e-mail, and onsite consultation to a 
ariety of constituents on disability related issues by independently analyzing 
nd interpreting highly confidential inquires regarding application of 
mployment and disability legislation.
Responsibilities include:
•Serve as primary resource to provide guidance and interpretation of rights and 
esponsibilities related to Title I, II and III of the Americans with Disability 
ct (ADA) and ADA
mendments Act (ADAAA).  Provide accurate, documented, professional and timely 
elephone and e-mail responses and individualized consultation and related 
esources to
mployers from the private and public sectors seeking complex interpretation of  
nformation on workplace issues including accommodation, recruitment of 
pplicants with disabilities, effective human resource and other employment 
olicies and practices to facilitate the hiring, retention, and advancement of 
eople with disabilities; programmatic access in state
nd local government and other Title II entities; full and equal access to 
laces of public accommodation; information around the revised ADA Accessibility 
uidelines (ADAAG)
nd building codes.
•Maintain and develop knowledge of other relevant disciplines and issues 
ffecting implementation and enforcement of the ADAAA and related laws, such as 
uilding codes, human resources policies, civil rights or state/local government 
tatutes, changes in federal disability programs, accessible information 
echnology products and vendors, and other issues.
•Independently sustain current knowledge base of all aspects of employment and 
isability issues, including recruitment, accommodation, the ADAAA and related 
aws including new regulations and interpretations released by regulatory 
gencies and employment legislation related to workplace issues that impact the 
iring, retention and advancement of people
ith disabilities, as well as national resources to support the recruitment of 
ualified applicants with disabilities.
•Evaluate and synthesize inquires to assess the need to collaborate with subject 
atter experts, when appropriate, to enhance the provision and quality of 
echnical assistance.
Provide on-site training to employers on employment and disability issues as 
eeded.
Accurately document all technical assistance interventions into online 
eporting tool.
Coordinate with multiple project teams in all aspects of data analysis and 
athering for documentation, evaluation, and reporting.
Actively partner with project teams in reaching out to respective constituents 
o offer training and technical knowledge, disseminate informational materials 
nd develop capacity.

ualifications
Bachelor’s degree with three to five years related experience or equivalent 
ombination of education and work experience.
Experience in providing information and support (technical assistance, 
nformation dissemination, troubleshooting or similar functions) via phone and 
mail.
Experience in situational appropriate communication, in both written and oral 
ormats, is imperative to effectively provide service to diverse population of 
lientele.
ontacts may involve highly sensitive or confidential information.
•Must have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse 
lientele.
Excellent verbal, written, telephone and public presentation skills.
Excellent listening skills including the ability to listen for detail when 
nteracting with callers on the phone.
Independent judgment, analytical, problem solving, and collaborative skills.
Must have demonstrated ability to handle sensitive/confidential material in a 
rofessional manner.

referred Qualifications
•Master’s degree in related field, such as human resources, vocational 
ehabilitation counseling, employment counseling, job placement, etc.
•A minimum of two to four years’ experience providing disability-related 
echnical assistance to employers on employment-related issues to promote the 
iring, retention,
nd advancement of people with disabilities or have equivalent experience in a 
isability-related position with disability-related technical assistance and 
raining.
•Knowledge of all titles of the ADA including employment and workplace issues 
elated to the hiring, retention, and advancement of people with disabilities; 
rogrammatic
ccess in state and local government and other Title II entities, access issues 
or places of public accommodations.
•Strong technical knowledge of employer best practices in recruiting and hiring 
eople with disabilities, civil rights protections for people with disabilities 
all titles of the ADA; Title V
f the Rehabilitation Act, and other related topics, etc.).
•Familiarity with national, state, and local recruitment resources for job 
eekers with disabilities and/or technical knowledge for effectively research 
nd identify such resources in
 timely manner.
•Background knowledge in related fields, such as human resources, job placement, 
ecruitment, civil rights and disability rights laws, etc.
Knowledge of digital learning tools, web media, and use of web for technical 
ssistance research and information dissemination.
Demonstrated outstanding training, training development and facilitation 
kills.
Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred.
