Special Issue of the Journal of LGBT Issues in Counseling:
Addiction in LGBTQ Communities: Influences, Treatment and Prevention

Deadline for Manuscripts: May 15, 2012

The Journal of LGBT Issues in Counseling invites submissions for a special issue on addiction and its influence on LGBTQ communities. Although the construct of addiction has broadened to include a variety of substances and behaviors, the meaning of addiction is often confusing and muddled for many helping professionals. Furthermore, the extant literature exploring addiction-related issues among LGBTQ communities is underrepresented. Therefore, the purpose of this special issue is to call the counseling profession to consider innovative ways to advance addictions counseling among LGBTQ individuals by exploring and examining factors that influence chemical and behavioral addictions, effective treatment outcomes, and LGBTQ-affirming prevention strategies. Manuscripts that are grounded in a social justice, multicultural, strengths-based and/or liberation framework are strongly encouraged. The editors of this special issue are interested in empirical, theoretical, and clinically-focused manuscripts. We are seeking submissions that attend to the spectrum of addictions, from substance-related addictions to behavioral addictions (gambling, sex, compulsive exercising/eating disorders etc.). Additionally, we emphasize submissions that address the confluence of addiction with sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, race, class, age and/or ability. The journal is published quarterly by Taylor & Francis.

Manuscripts will go through a masked peer-review process. Please limit submissions to 20-25 manuscript pages (including references; APA format, 6th ed.). Submissions must be original and not previously published.

The deadline for submissions is May 15, 2012.
