Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a bachelor's degree in vocational rehabilitation, social work, psychology, counseling or other closely related rehabilitation degree AND:

Three years experience working with special populations in a direct service capacity; OR
Two years of experience as a vocational rehabilitation counselor; OR
A master's degree in one of the above disciplines.

 
Preference will be given to applicants who meet the ND Qualified Rehabilitation Professional (QRP) standards as follows: a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC); a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling or a counseling-related field from a program accredited by the Council on Rehabilitation Counselor Education (CORE) or the Council on Accreditation of Counseling-Related Programs (CACRP); OR a master's degree in a closely-related field and eligibility to write the Council on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) Examination. COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED WITH APPLICATION.
 
NOTE: Individuals selected for any Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor position will be required to meet the ND Qualified Rehabilitation Professional (QRP) standards within five years from the date of appointment.

Summary of Work:

Carry a caseload that covers the full range of physical and mental disabilities. 
Provide services to assist clients in coping with their disabilities and in achieving their vocational goals.
Provide counseling to clients regarding unrealistic vocational goals. This may require some adjustment to counseling approaches or styles. 
Select evaluation instruments and techniques appropriate to the client’s situation. 
Identify client work characteristics to be observed and rated on actual or simulated work situations. 
Determine appropriate community services for the client’s needs. 
Evaluate the client’s social support system. 
Determine the client’s ability to perform independent living activities. 
Make recommendations to the employer regarding modifications of job tasks to accommodate the client’s functional limitations. 
Utilize statistical concepts associated with assessment instruments. 
Observe specific client behaviors in a real or simulated work setting. 
Participate with advocacy groups to promote public awareness and legislative support for rehabilitation programs. 
Negotiate financial responsibilities for the client’s rehabilitation with referral source and/or sponsor. 
Apply local norms for assessment instruments and other assessment techniques.
Determine program eligibility based on state and federal regulations.
Position will require outreach to rural areas.
