Cluster Hire in Innovative Methods
The Social Science Research Institute (SSRI) and the Colleges of Education, Health and Human Development, and the Liberal Arts announce 3-4 open rank tenure track positions aimed at building on Penn State's existing strengths in innovative and interdisciplinary social science research. Much research in the social and behavioral sciences at Penn State focuses upon the development and application of novel research approaches, and future advances will rely on new methods in research design, measurement, data collection and data analysis that can capture the complexities of human and social systems. Penn State has substantial capacity in many areas of research methods, such as expertise in the quantitative analysis of demographic and social change within the Population Research Institute (PRI), in prevention methods within the Methodology Center, in educational program evaluation in the Training in Education Sciences (TIES) program, in survey methodologies within the Survey Research Center, and in spatial analysis within PRI/SSRI's Geographic Information Analysis core. Penn State faculty are also engaged in cross campus, interdisciplinary collaborations to develop new methods in areas including, but not limited to, the integration of biomarker and behavioral data, analysis of neuro-imaging data, social network data collection and analysis, and person-intensive dynamic and ambulatory research design, data collection, and analysis.
To capitalize on these strengths and foster new synergies, we seek colleagues with exceptional records of interdisciplinary collaborative research. We anticipate that the most promising candidates will be at the Associate or Professor levels and have established records of developing and/or applying novel research methods in their work. We seek candidates with strong publication and external funding histories along with demonstrated teaching and graduate mentorship proficiency. Preference will be given to candidates with collaborative potential in one or more substantive areas of strength in the social and behavioral sciences at Penn State, including (1) social and demographic change, (2) biological bases of behavior, health and development, and/or (3) prevention, intervention, and education programming for promoting development and well-being in children, youth, and families.
