The Employment and Disability Institute at Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations is pleased to announce The Citizen-Centered Leadership Development series! The series is comprised of six 90 minute webinar sessions designed to provide an up-to-date overview of the theoretical foundations of best practices in promoting community participation and citizenship for people who are determined to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities.

Each of the six carefully constructed online sessions invites participants to think beyond traditional roles and relationships with people with disabilities, service organizations and the community by centralizing the role of citizenship as the primary valued outcome. CCLD Introductory Series Price List

Each webinar session is 90 minutes in length. Registration is $125.00 for single session. Register and pay for the entire series at a special rate of $600.00 ($150 savings!)

Participants in the CCLD Introductory Series will also get a discount for the Citizen Centered Leadership Development Series in January 2012

Important Information About Tuition Reduction

Any person who has a financial hardship and who is interested in taking courses in the Citizen-Centered Leadership Introductory series may apply for a discount or qualify for a scholarship. Individuals with disabilities and immediate family members (husband, wife, life partner, mother, father, brother, sister, son or daughter) of people with disabilities will be granted an automatic 50% reduction in the attendance fee upon application. Further reductions may be available on a limited basis based on demonstrated need. The Community - Building Imperative

This cornerstone session discusses the challenge of promoting authentic community inclusion with individuals with disabilities within traditional organizational structures and advocates a paradigm shift using the lenses of citizenship and leadership development.

This session lays the foundation upon which community inclusion and meaningful citizenship contribution are built. It will include a brief review of civil and disability rights movements that have had powerful impact on contemporary society, and explore in greater detail the importance of understanding how valued social roles are translated into citizenship.

Course 3: November 28, 2011
Person-Centered Planning

Course 4: December 6, 2011
The Abundant Community

This session explores the fundamental intentions behind person-centered planning, and articulates the distinction between theory, practice and formal planning. Characteristics of organizations that successfully support person-centered processes will be reviewed, with a look at the ethics behind good practice.

This session emphasizes the opportunities that are readily available in any community for building valuable civic engagement. Participants will be introduced to two practical tools that are useful in targeting exploration and community-building efforts that lead to meaningful and inclusive citizenship contribution.

Making a Life by Making a Living

Course 6: December 19, 2011
Plans that Work: A Call to Action

There is no question that a core responsibility for citizenship is to be productive and to contribute to the greater good. Yet, people with disabilities are often excused from the expectation of employment. This session counters that exclusion and offers six easy steps to facilitating individualized job development and connection to associational life. A brief review of common misperceptions about the negative impact of employment on SSI/SSDI benefits will round this session out.

Tired of writing plans for the sake of writing plans? Frustrated by the perceived value of paper over people? Curious about how individuals (and even whole organizations), can develop and implement strengths-based plans that are alive and well? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, this session is for you! Learn how to include individualized, person-centered approaches that balance interests and needs with billable services in your goal planning. You will also be introduced to an organizational strategic planning process that parallels person-centered thinking!
