All,

Just a reminder that ASU and BLF will be hosting a discussion on the African Cup
of Nations recently hosted by Angola tonight at 7PM in the Friends of the
Library Room(319). Below is a description of the the topics for discussion. Hope
to see you all there. Refreshments will be served.

CAF suspension of Togo: A comparison of sporting terrorism by Jennifer McArdle

The presentation will cover a time-line of the Togo attack, including an
explanation of Front for the Liberation of the Enclave (FLEC) of Cabinda and why
Togo was suspended. Furthermore, they will be an examination 3 other incidents
of sporting terrorism as a way of framing the Togo attack.

Africa's chances in the World Cup by Damilola Daramola and Reuben Dlamini

According to famed German Professor Tolan, the predictor of the 2006 World Cup
winner, Germany is set to win this year's World Cup in South Africa. This
presentation argues that the challenges facing African teams are structural, in
particular the constant interference of Africa's football management, team
structures and the failure by African football associations to provide the
necessary tools and resources. Therefore, just like Tolan argues, it is unlikely
that we will see an African team emerge victorious in South Africa 2010.
