For those of you that don't know me, my name is Elena Loo and I'm newly activated into APhiO. Over Memorial Day Weekend I'm traveling with a group of 50 students to New Orleans to work with organizations like Habitat for Humanity in rebuilding homes that are still needed in the area since Hurricane Katrina's destruction, over five years ago.
Here's how you can help. This trip has the potential to be pretty expensive for all the students involved so we've all been doing a ton of fundraising for the past few weeks. Our biggest fundraiser is taking place next Monday at 7pm at Old Nelson. It's a benefit dinner that costs $20 per ticket for students, or $160 for a table that seats eight. I know thats pretty pricy for most of us, but since we have organizations sponsoring the meal, 100% of the proceeds goes to our New Orleans trip. Also, not only do you get an amazing dinner out of it, you get to hear a key-note speaker, enjoy live music, dance, and theater performances, hang with all the participants, and the chance to bid in a silent auction that includes prizes like Indians tickets. If you convince friends to come, you could even have an entire table of bros to hang out with all night. Or, you can just eat and leave if you decide you have better things to do on a Monday night.
I spoke with Kris and Gaby and they've agreed to offer service hours if you purchase a ticket to attend the dinner.
If you are interested in purchasing a ticket, please contact me at 419.973.6589 or email me at el295208 at ohio.edu and we will set up a time to meet. Once you've paid me, your name will go on the will call list at the door of the event and that's all you'll need to get in. Or, sign up on the website and leave your contact information and I'll come hunt you down for ticket money.
I'm hoping you all will consider coming. The rebuilding of New Orleans has really taken so long that most people don't realize there's still a lot to be done. It's time that we all work towards finishing rebuilding efforts.
