Child-Centered Mathematics: Valuing Children's Ways of Thinking and Knowing

Dr. Courtney Koestler will discuss how her career teaching culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse children in public schools influenced her perspectives and practices of teaching and teacher education. She will share video clips from her teacher-researcher studies and discuss how Rico Gutstein's framework of Teaching Mathematics for Social Justice has shaped her work as a teacher of children, prospective teachers, and practicing teachers.
