· Standards-based curricula and how to work collaboratively to integrate and articulate programs throughout the grades.

Ø Standards-based curricula are best implemented when they have been given the proper amount of time for design. For example, teachers need a block of time designated just for curriculum development.

Ø Curriculum maps are important when implementing a standards-based curricula, so that teachers are teaching standards in the same sequence and time table as other teachers within the same grade-level.

Ø The standards determine what is taught, not how it’s taught.

Ø Student learning is most impacted by quality instruction which is produced through collaboration, making collaboration of utmost importance.

Ø Students with severe disabilities, it is more important to teach functional skills so they can be productive and independent in adult life.

Ø Collaboration is essential in developing an effective standards-based curriculum.

Ø Teachers should collaborate within their grade-level, as well as with prior and future grade-level teams.

Ø Consulting the model-curriculum is beneficial when implementing a standards-based curriculum as it provides grade-level progressions, and would help with vertical alignment.
