* - Dweck’s ability theory: - Do you subscribe more to ability being stable
(fixed) or incremental (growth)? - An incremental mindset, also known as
growth mindset, is necessary.- Which perspective do you think is prevalent
among the teachers in your school?- There is a mixed bag relating to this
topic. For example, some teachers believe that ability of stable (or
fixed), which means that they will never improve their ability for a
certain area (e.g., “I’m not musically inclined.”). Others believe that
ability is incremental; that is, ability level can grow over time. - If
your perspective differs from the staff of the school in which you become a
principal, in what manner will you deal with the difference?- A principal
who has a growth mindset can motivate others who have fixed mindsets by
using success stories to encourage students and positive verbal persuasion
to encourage students and teachers. Principals can also place teachers in
situations where they can succeed and then raise the bar to encourage
growth. Similarly, a principal must have a vision that is emotionally
appealing for teachers, which will build self- and collective-efficacy. *
