2 years full-time equivalent job-related experience working with computers
as tools for learning; working knowledge of PC and/or Macintosh platforms;
experience with a course management system; strong interpersonal
communications skills; enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the potential
uses for new technologies for student learning; a vision for the role of
instructional technology at the university; fluency in English; excellent
organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and
in a team environment; ability to adapt to and work with a shifting variety
of priorities and assignments; and a commitment to quality customer service.

Additional Desirable Qualifications: Advanced degree; experience with
teaching in an educational setting; experience with online course
development using a course management system; consulting with university
faculty; instructional design in an academic or corporate training
environment; and project management.
Principal duties:

University of Wisconsin-Madison, Division of Information Technology (DoIT),
Department of Learning Technology and Distance Education (LTDE)

The Learning Technology Consultant works within the Department of Learning
Technology and Distance Education (LTDE) at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison, Division of Information Technology (DoIT), to support the
effective use of instructional technologies for teaching and learning. The
consultant provides expert advice to faculty and instructional staff, and
instructional technology support staff. The consultant works to promote
increased understanding of and support for the use of these technologies
across the university - with individual faculty, faculty groups,
departments, professional degree and certificate programs, and with other
academic groups and initiatives. The consultant provides initial assistance
to faculty, instructional design advice, instructional support services, and
monitors emerging technologies in teaching and learning to determine
appropriate use in education. The consultant must be able to work
cooperatively within teams, help plan and set priorities for the
department's activities, and collaborate effectively with campus groups.

The consultant must be qualified for and prepared to assume any of the
following duties. Proportions of time spent within this set of duties will
vary over time based on changing needs:

35% Consult with faculty on appropriate use of technology for teaching and
learning. Specifically, consult and support the effective use of Learn at UW, a
course management system.

20% Provide workshops, demos, online modules and tutorials on the sound use
of instructional technology to faculty, instructional staff, and
instructional technology support staff.

10% Collaborate with campus instructional technology support units and their
staff to promote collaboration of campus initiatives, and to increase
awareness and understanding of learning technologies.

10% Monitor emerging technologies for possible integration into instruction.

5% Present at the annual teaching and learning symposium and other events.
Present at learning technology conferences and meetings.

5% Collaborate with other DoIT staff, campus groups, and state-wide groups
in order to reach faculty and instructional staff.

5% Write articles for publications and/or contribute content to our web
sites.

5% Contribute ideas and help set direction for a growing and rapidly
evolving department. Collaborate with other members of the department in a
team-based environment and share responsibilities for everyday departmental
functions.

5% Complete other duties as assigned.
