Re: Nomination of Graduate Students---Holmes Scholars Program

Action: PELASE SHARE WITH YOUR GRADUATE STUDENTS (Self-nominations are
accepted).

The Holmes Scholars Program was established in 1991 to enrich the scholarly
experience and professional training of talented men and women of color
and/or persons with disability who are underrepresented in leadership
positions in our universities and professional development schools. On June
1, 2001, the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education
(AACTE<http://www.aacte.org/>)
and the George Washington University's Graduate School of Education and
Human Development (GSEHD <http://gsehd.gwu.edu/gsehd/>) jointly assumed the
management and coordination of the Holmes Scholars Program.

The Holmes Scholars are a select group of graduate students who are enrolled
at The Holmes Partnership <http://www.holmespartnership.org/> institutions.
They are preparing for careers in the education professorate and in
professional development schools. More than 400 students have participated
in the network and nearly 100 are currently in tenure-track positions at
colleges and universities around the country. *Two members of our faculty
are Holmes Scholar Alumni (Dr. Najeé Muhammad and Dr. Adah Ward-Randolph).*

Individuals selected as Holmes Scholars should be doctoral students or
students pursuing a terminal degree in the field. These individuals should
be nominated during their first year (preferably in their second semester)
and begin their Scholar status at the beginning of the second year of their
doctoral or terminal degree program.

   - Are members of groups under-represented in the education professoriate
or in the *education or related fields*
   - Intend to be or are engaged in teacher education (pre-service and/or
in-service OR are engaged in fields/specializations with a clear
school-based focus (e.g., *school psychology, educational administration,
   educational technology*)
   - Demonstrate a commitment to equity and diversity
   - Agree to work in Professional Development Schools or other
   school/university/community/business collaborative partnership arrangements

Please see the link below for the APPLICATION. It would be nice to have a
Scholar representing each of our Departments.

Please return all required information to the Office of the Dean on or
