Don’t forget: The deadline for the Voinovich School Undergraduate Scholar program is soon: Feb 23. Both GIS AND non-GIS emphasis available (see attached flyer). Apply!

We have had a number of geography majors participate in this program over the years and they have had GREAT experiences.


Call for Voinovich School Undergraduate Scholarship applications for 2018-19 school year

The Voinovich School Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Team is seeking candidates for a GIS scholar position for the next academic year. This position will provide you with real world experience as a GIS Technician working on a variety of projects for local city/county governments in and around Athens and Southeast Ohio. There will also be opportunities for the scholar selected to work on personally developed projects that fit within the interests of the individual. For example, this year, our GIS Voinovich Scholar, Ethan Sleeman, conducted a survey of bicycle rack use on campus, and produced an analysis that resulted in recommendations to the University on where there are needs for more bicycle parking.
The pay rate is $11/hour as a student hourly.

Eligibility Requirements include:
Individuals applying must be a registered student through the full 2018-2019 academic year.
Strong academic record.
Excellent communication and writing skills.
Students can be in enrolled in any school or department in the University.

In addition, the GIS Team will be looking for Voinovich Scholar candidates that have some GIS coursework or other GIS project experience.

Deadline to apply is Friday, February 23, 2018
