Thank you for your interest in the National Geographic Geography Intern Program! We are thrilled to announce that applications are now being accepted for both the Summer and Fall 2016 internship semesters. Please visit the National Geographic careers website<http://nationalgeographic.us7.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=64c8d5539a59bf01582ae4edb&id=d10ed912df&e=933397c43f> to apply.

Interns may be assigned to work in one of the many divisions within the National Geographic Society; individual projects and assignments will vary. Most include some degree of research, writing, working in teams, self-direction, and being able to manage many tasks at once. Please find more information about application requirements below. All materials must be received by midnight on April 8, 2016.

Application Details:

ELIGIBILITY
Candidates must be Geography, GIS, or Cartography majors at United States colleges and universities who are currently enrolled in their junior or senior year or in a master's degree program at the time of application.

PERIOD OF INTERNSHIPS (12 weeks)
Two semesters of internships are being offered:
1.      Summer Semester: May 16 - August 5, 2016
2.      Fall Semester: August 22 - November 11, 2016

APPLICATION DEADLINE
All application materials must be received by April 8, 2016.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must apply online through NationalGeographic.com/jobs<http://nationalgeographic.us7.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=64c8d5539a59bf01582ae4edb&id=edd3ce7cd7&e=933397c43f> (Click on Jobs with National Geographic Society). Attach the following to the online application, preferably as a PDF:
1.      A cover letter (200 words or less);
2.      A short essay (500 words or less) relating experiences that led the applicant to formal training in geography, stating his or her professional goals, and explaining why she or he wishes to participate in the National Geographic Geography Intern Program;
3.      A complete résumé that includes each of the following: the applicant's extracurricular activities, awards and recognitions; employment history; a list of specific skills such as software or language proficiencies; and other relevant information such as special interests, hobbies, and travel.
4.      Up-to-date unofficial college transcripts.

ADDITIONAL MATERIALS REQUIRED
Three letters of recommendation must be sent to geographyinterns at ngs.org<mailto:geographyinterns at ngs.org> prior to the application deadline from the following:
1.      Applicant's department chair or academic advisor,
2.      Geography faculty member with whom the applicant has been associated, and;
3.      One person of the applicant's choice outside of the department (professional reference preferred).

COMPENSATION
*    $460 per 40-hour work week
*    $500 travel allowance
*    Academic credit may be arranged
