Hi HCS students --

The following information pertains to a handful of students who will have COMPLETED all courses required for the DEGREE, but on the quarter system have between 180-192 hours...

Long story short, if you have 180 hours by June and have completed all of the degree required courses, you can apply for SUMMER (August) graduation without any further courses. Students who have at least 180 by end of summer an also meet all degree requirements can also graduate that term (summer). Note July 26, 2012 application for graduation deadline for SUMMER. Please consult your advisor if this pertains to you!

Here is the message from Ohio U:

Faculty Senate passed a resolution this week, signed by Executive Vice President and Provost Pam Benoit, which will allow some bachelor's and associate degree students to graduate in August 2012 even if they have not completed the quarter-based minimum credit hour requirements. The resolution permits waiving up to twelve quarter credit hours for the baccalaureate degree and up to six quarter credit hours for the associate's degree for students who have completed all other requirements.

Background

Prior to the passage of resolution, the degree conferral of these students would have been delayed until December 2012, which could have had an adverse impact on student loan deferrals and entrance into graduate programs. The resolution was proposed by the Educational Policy and Student Affairs committee to allow the degree conferral date to be moved closest to the August transition date, which is the summer quarter conferral date of August 11, 2012.

What You Need to Know in Advising Students

 * To be eligible, bachelor's degree students must have completed at least 180 total credit hours (equivalent to 120 semester credit hour requirement) and all other graduation requirements by end of summer quarter.
 * Associate degree students must have completed at least 90 total credit hours (equivalent to 60 semester credit hour requirement) and all other graduation requirements by the end of summer quarter.
 * The student must apply for summer graduation before the July 26, 2012 deadline using the regular application process.

If the application is approved for degree conferral by the student's academic unit, the waiver of hours will automatically be applied. This waiver is only applicable to summer quarter 2012 degree conferral.

Students who are eligible and intend to apply for summer quarter graduation may elect to participate in spring commencement ceremonies. To do so, they must apply for spring quarter graduation, indicating on the application that they will complete graduation requirements in summer quarter; their application will automatically be re initiated for summer graduation.
