*Athena Cinema will screen 'BULLY' Oct. 1-4*

*Special panel discussion after 4 p.m. screening on Oct. 2*

>From staff reports****

The Athena Cinema will bring the widely acclaimed documentary, "BULLY," to
Athens on Oct. 1-4. A special panel discussion will take place on Tuesday,
Oct. 2.

"School bullying has become a huge issue in our society and by hosting
screenings and a panel discussion with members from the Ohio University
faculty, Athens Community members and area educators, the Athena Cinema
hopes to play an integral part in creating a discussion and raising
awareness on the dangers of this issue," said Athena Cinema Managing
Director Alexandra Kamody.

According to The Bully Project, more than 13 million American kids will be
bullied this year, making it the most common form of violence experienced
by young people in the nation. The new documentary film “BULLY," directed
by Sundance and Emmy-award winning filmmaker, Lee Hirsch, brings human
scale to this startling statistic, offering an intimate, unflinching look
at how bullying has touched five kids and their families. For more
information about The Bully Project, visit www.thebullyproject.com.

A special panel discussion will be held on Oct. 2 following the 4 p.m.
screening of "BULLY." The panel will cover topics highlighted in the movie
as they relate to their own organizations and personal experiences. The
panel will end with audience questions. The panel moderator will be
Christine Bhat and confirmed panelists at this time are Nancy Baur, Redina
Dailey, Mara Giglio and Adam Safran.

Bhat is the 2012-2013 President of the Ohio Counseling Association (OCA)
and an associate professor in counselor education. The OCA is the
professional organization representing all licensed counselors, and those
in graduate training to be counselors, in Ohio.

Baur graduated from Ohio University in 2001 with a bachelor's in education
and was a special education teacher for 10 years working with children with
severe mental disabilities as well as emotional disturbance. She is a
representative of the Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays
(PFLAG) organization.

Dailey is a school counselor at Alexander Jr. High/High School in Albany,
Ohio.

Giglio is the director of the Appalachian Peace and Justice Network (APJN)
and a consultant for the Ohio Commission on Dispute Resolution and Conflict
Management (OCDRCM). At APJN, she provides training on conflict resolution,
peer mediation and bully and violence prevention as well as doing community
organizing around social and economic justice issues.

Safran is a 29-year-old Athens resident who grew up in Athens and graduated
from Ohio University with a degree in history. Adam has Asperger's Syndrome
and will share some of his insights and experiences from school.

“BULLY” is rated PG-13. Show times are: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday (Oct. 1-4) at 4 and 7 p.m.

This screening event is sponsored by Arts for Ohio. Arts for Ohio will
provide free admission to any “BULLY” screening for Ohio University
students, faculty and staff with a valid Ohio University ID and for any
Athens County educators, principals and staff with a valid school ID.

Tickets for the general public are $5 for matinee times and $6.50 for
evening shows. Tickets may be purchased at the Athena Cinema located at 20
South Court St. in Athens during regular business hours.
