Greetings with gratitude from all of us in the Good Works Community! We are about half-way through our 43rd year. We are grateful and excited as we press on in love for our neighbors!

This email is about the Good Works Summer Discovery Club and Lunch!

As many of you already know, we have been providing the Summer Kids Discovery Club and Summer Lunch for many years! This summer (June 19-August 3) we are again planning to provide a full morning of fun, inspiration, and educational activities for kids (K-6th grade) followed by hot and nutritious Summer Lunch for adults and children. We will do this for 7 weeks at The Plains United Methodist Church.

Here are a few ways you can walk alongside us:

  *   Volunteer once a week at the Summer Lunch (M-TH) from 10:30 am- 1:00 pm. You would assist in lunch prep, stay for the meal, and to help clean up afterwards.
  *   Help to provide fresh produce, meats, or gift cards from Kroger, Aldi, Walmart, or Piggly Wiggy to assist us with food for the lunch.
  *   Volunteer to be a one-time presenter sometime this summer. Presenters typically share 20-30 minutes two times in one morning on a wide range of topics. Examples are presentations on recycling, local history, music, bugs/insects, art, life skills, exercise, healthy food habits. sports, etc.

PS - This summer, we will again accelerate our outreach to our neighbors who are widows, widowers or who struggle with issues related to aging and disability through the Good Works initiative called Neighbors Helping Neighbors.  We will be hosting several week-long Work Retreat Groups this summer from South Carolina, North Carolina and Ohio. We have some weeks open and would welcome 1-day service groups.  If you'd like more information about serving for a day, contact us.
