Each year, this grant will provide a one-time award of $5,000 to four outstanding full-time doctoral candidates who demonstrate significant potential as researchers in their fields of study and who are interested in evaluating the outcomes of Mental Health First Aid trainings in the U.S.

These grants represent the National Council’s commitment to grow the U.S.-based research behind and evaluation of all MHFA programs. MHFA is an evidence-based training course that teaches participants to recognize and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges and crises. Participants learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and substance use challenges, strategies for helping someone in crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help. The program is built on a strong foundation of international research. MHFA USA has trained more than 2.5 million people and 21,000 Instructors throughout all 50 states and in U.S. territories, including Puerto Rico and Guam.
