Dear Dr. Erby,
Your participation is requested as either a counselor educator, counseling supervisor, or counseling practitioner on a research study entitled “Practice and instruction of distance counseling: Educator, supervisor, and counselor perspectives.” Distance counseling, also known as telemental health counseling, cyber counseling, e-therapy, and other terms, includes the delivery of counseling services  by a qualified practitioner in non-face-to-face settings, such as videoconferencing, web video platforms, telephone, email, messaging, text, and chat.

I am seeking feedback from all counselor educators, supervisors, and practitioners, ranging from those who have no experience with distance counseling practice to those with extensive experience in distance counseling. Educators, supervisors, and practitioners from all counseling specialties and settings are encouraged to participate. The purpose of this survey is to understand the extent to which counselor educators, supervisors, and practitioners have been trained in distance counseling and utilize distance counseling in their practice, supervision, and teaching, as well as, their beliefs on the need for training.  This research has been funded by a grant from the North Atlantic Regional of the Association of Counselor Education and Supervision (NARACES), and has been approved by the IRB at St. John’s University (Protocol #: 11118-169).
