Do you have students who are up for a challenge? This year’s Scripps Innovation Challenge is ideal for The Patton College students: Find innovative ways to improve high school graduation rates and college readiness in Appalachia.

Please share this information with students who may be interested in this opportunity and willing to represent The Patton College. You may have received fliers in your PCOE mailboxes as well.
It’s time for the annual student competition called the Scripps Innovation Challenge. Student teams compete to create innovative solutions to a media or communications problem, or “challenge”. This year’s challenge is sponsored by AT&T and is right in the wheelhouse of the Patton College. Competitors are being asked to come up with innovative ways to improve high school graduation rates and college readiness in Appalachia. The deadline is only 10 days away, and only three Patton College students have expressed interest in entering.

There’s still time. Initial entries - basically just rough draft submissions - are due March 9. This link explains how to enter: https://author.oit.ohio.edu/scrippscollege/innovationchallenge/how_to_enter.cfm  In advance of that, on March 5 & 6, there will be drop-by workshops to walk students through how to prepare an entry (https://www.ohio.edu/scrippscollege/innovationchallenge/event-details.cfm?eventItem=SIC-2018-Workshop-3-What-do-you-need-to-know-to-win-). All they need is the germ of an idea and the workshops will guide them on how to submit a draft entry.

Here’s why it’s important:
- Great student learning experience that’s a real resume builder.
- $3,000 prize pot.

  *   Most importantly, the sponsorship of AT&T. As you’re probably aware, improving college preparedness is a nationwide AT&T campaign. It’s our hope that a successful Scripps Innovation Challenge will encourage AT&T to engage more deeply with Ohio University and, specifically, the Patton College.
