Dear Prospective Participant:



My name is Christian Wright and I am a doctoral student in the Counselor Education and Supervision program at Argosy University, Chicago working on my dissertation. This research project has been certified by Argosy University, Chicago’s Institutional Review Board.



As a student in a CACREP accredited master’s counseling program, you are cordially invited to volunteer your participation in my dissertation research. The purpose of this research is to examine changes in the level of self and others empathic understanding. Empathic understanding is placing oneself imaginatively in another’s experiential world while feeling into his or her own experiences with the aim of comprehending these experiences. Given the importance of a counselor being able to demonstrate empathic understanding with clients, this study intends to measure changes in empathic understanding in master’s counseling students. In addition, the study intends to examine whether differences exist between change in levels of empathic understanding for fully online programs and blended programs.



Your participation in this study would be completely voluntary and anonymous. By volunteering to participate in this study, you are asked to answer all of the demographic information and 20 specific survey questions as honestly and completely as possible. The entire on-line survey should take no more than 15 minutes to complete. The IP addresses in Survey Monkey® are not collected. All participants successfully completing the entire survey will be offered a separate link, disconnected to the first one, to enter a drawing for 1 of 10 Amazon $25 gift cards.
