Dear Fellow Colleagues,

Greetings! My name is Taryn Richardson and I wanted to introduce myself to you as your Student Task Force Representative for the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association (ARCA). In recent times, ARCA has been working to increase its student involvement. With that said, we need your help!

Currently, we are in need of a student representative from your institution. This individual would work with me to get students involved in ARCA and provide me with feedback from current ARCA student members at your university regarding any recommendations about how to improve ARCA to maximize its benefits to students and their professional development. In addition, we are in the process of trying to increase student chapters across institutions, please contact me if there is any interest in starting an ARCA student chapter at your university.

For more information about how to become more involved with the ARCA Student Task Force (i.e., associate and regional representative), please see the Student Task Force Volunteer Opportunities attachment and feel free to contact me with any questions.

Please visit our website regularly. This website provides information regarding ARCA, upcoming conferences, networking opportunities, and an application form. JOIN ARCA! As a student member, you can enjoy a monthly subscription to ARCA's professional journal, Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin, and a quarterly newsletter. In addition, as an ARCA student member, you can engage in professional development activities as well as gain recognition for your hard work and service to person with disabilities. To that end, we have student awards, which include the Vision Award and Student of the Year Award. We also have a student fund donated by Charlene M. Kampfe. Your input on fundraising ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Lastly, stay connected with ARCA. Calls for student award nominations and participation in an ARCA sponsored program, Understanding Rehabilitation Counseling, are soon to come. The Vision Award is presented to a student who through an essay identifies unique innovations that highlight the collaborative relationship between the specialty of rehabilitation counseling and the counseling profession at large. The recipient of this award will be recognized at the annual ARCA Reception held at The American Counseling Association (ACA) conference, have their essay published in the Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin, and receive a $1000 award. ARCA Student of the Year Awards recognizes students at both the master and doctoral student level for their contributions, academic achievement, and commitment to the rehabilitation counseling profession. Understanding Rehabilitation Counseling is a program that encourages students to learn more about their chosen profession by becoming involved in their local community through a rehabilitation or disability-related project.
