Professional Programs Admissions Counselor and Staff Assistant

  The Professional Program Specialist serves as an advanced resource for problem resolution and second tier calls, emails and visits, within the Graduate and Professional Admissions Office (GP); serves as a resource to GP and Admissions & Orientation Contact Center (AOCC) staff to research and resolve escalated cases involving complex application and enrollment issues; maintains current knowledge of international and professional admissions policies and procedures, including state and federal regulations regarding international students; stays current of Ohio State Graduate and Professional program offerings; serves as liaison and point of contact between the professional programs ( Dentistry, Optometry, Medicine, Law, Health/Rehabilitation Sciences, Nursing, Dental Hygiene and Pharmacy) and the Graduate and Professional Admissions Office Outreach area; leads the Professional School Recruitment Committee; maintains excellent knowledge of the prerequisite evaluation process; disseminates admission information to colleagues regarding professional admissions; Coordinates our messaging in regard to professional programs on the web, and in our communications,  represents Ohio State at various graduate and professional recruiting events on and off campus; overnight and weekend travel may be required; participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.



Duties:



50%        serves as a resource to GP and AOCC staff to research and resolve escalates cases involving complex application and enrollment issues and provides on going follow-up, including Graduate School policy, academic choice and eligibility to apply, pre-requisite equivalencies, International credentials and immigration issues as they relate to the application process;  responds to inquiries in person, by phone, email, fax and mail; maintains current knowledge of international and professional admissions policies and procedures, including state and federal regulations, SEVIS, and understanding Visa types and distinctions; stays current of Ohio State Graduate and Professional program offerings, general eligibility and pre-requisite preparation;



40%        serves as liaison for professional admissions counseling and training; disseminates admission information to colleagues regarding professional admissions; serves as a liaison to the professional programs;  leads the Professional School Recruitment Committee; maintains excellent knowledge of the prerequisite evaluation process; Coordinates our messaging in regard to professional programs on the web, and in our communications,



5%           participates in special projects to support the needs of Graduate Outreach area; collects and tabulates data, prepares reports to inform decision-making; makes recommendations for changes in procedures; serves on University committees;



5%           represents Ohio State at various graduate and professional recruiting events; overnight and weekend travel may be required; performs other duties as assigned;





Experience:  Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination edu/exp required, Master's Degree preferred; experience in counseling or college admissions or  graduate/professional admissions preferred; strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills required;  possesses, acquires and maintains technical/professional expertise required to assist prospect, applicants and faculty through problem solving, applying technical knowledge; must maintain and exercise current knowledge of the Student Information System along with PeopleSoft and Microsoft operating systems;  ability to track and resolve problems; this position requires successful completion of a background check;



Pay range $33,000 - $37,000
