DIVISION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION AND COUNSELING - Rehabilitation Services and Counseling
Position:
Assistant Professor, Division of Special Education and Counseling – Rehabilitation Services and Counseling.
Starting Date:
September 2015. CSULA operates on a quarter system year round calendar until June 2016 before converting to a semester cousystem year round calendar beginning August 2016.
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctorate (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) or ABD in Rehabilitation Counseling or closely related field from an accredited doctoral program is required for tenure
Demonstrated ability and interest in working in a collaborative, multiethnic, multicultural environment
Demonstrated potential for or record of research, scholarly, and/or creative activity and demonstrated potential for effective teaching using a variety of methodologies
Recent experience as a rehabilitation counselor in public or private sector rehabilitation
Record of potential to conduct research and other scholarly activities involving students whenever possible
Must be eligible for, or certificated as Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (C.R.C.)
Proficiency in oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including a willingness to work cooperatively with both students and colleagues.
Retention, tenure, and promotion require building a record of excellent teaching, service, and scholarly publications.
As a University dedicated to engagement, service and the public good, the successful candidate will be expected to join faculty, staff, students and administrators in a commitment to these purposes.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with professional development, university teaching, on-line instruction, and/or field supervision. Should possess teaching competence in several of the following areas:
Undergraduate rehabilitation services
Graduate-level rehabilitation counseling
Practicum and supervision of clinical practice
Career counseling, job development, and placement
Human development and self-exploration
Counseling theories and strategies
Community mental health counseling
Duties:
Principle duties include teaching graduate and undergraduate students in rehabilitation counseling and rehabilitation services; supervising internship placements in community agencies; providing academic advisement in a counseling program whose identified mission is the development of counseling-related professionals to serve urban, multilingual schools, and other agencies in the 21st century.
Engage in scholarly activities, participate in University or community service, and assist the program in seeking additional external funding. Candidates should demonstrate effective oral/written communication and interpersonal skills, including a willingness to work cooperatively with both students and colleagues. Candidate may be asked to teach during the summer term
