Curry School of Education Advertisement for Tenured Associate Professor or Tenure Track Faculty Member in Counselor Education/School Counseling
 
The Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia is seeking applicants for a tenure track or tenured faculty position in the Department ofHuman Services in the area of Counselor Education/School Counseling. The incumbent is expected to design and sustain rigorous scholarship and interpretive inquiry in the fields of counselor education/school counseling and to obtain and sustain extramural funding.  Duties also include teaching courses in the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) core areas and providing supervision to master’s level school counseling students. Finally, the incumbent may develop and offer undergraduate course electives in a counseling-related field and conceptualizes innovative ways to engage partnerships within and beyond the Curry School.
To be considered for the tenure track appointment, applicants must demonstrate
potential for or evidence of a strong foundation in scholarly research. To be considered
for the tenured appointment applicants must have a track record of publication in
refereed journals and a demonstrated ability to obtain and sustain extramural funding.
 
A doctorate in Counselor Education is required, preferably from a CACREP accredited
program. Candidates must have or be eligible for relevant counseling
credentials (e.g., School Counseling licensure, LPC, NCC). Teaching experience in a 
higher education setting in courses related to the eight counseling core areas, school
counseling, and/or practicum and internship is required. Knowledge of comprehensive 
school counseling programing for children and youth, focusing on career, academic,
personal, and social development in school settings is required as is knowledge of
evidence-based methods for successfully providing services to children and youth in
school settings. Knowledge and experience with the ASCA National Model and the 
Transforming School Counseling Initiative is required. Cultural competence in the
assessment and delivery of counseling services is essential as is the ability to maintain
and build collaborative partnerships with schools, community colleges, and agencies
serving children and youth. Finally, evidence of an explicit commitment to diversity and
of ability to advance understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups is
required. Experience supervising post-graduate research is preferred, as is school 
counseling experience. Innovative use of technology in teaching and training is also
