Greetings!
My name is Katie Wachtel and I am the Student Task Forcerepresentative for the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association.  I am writing CORE accredited programsto share an exciting and unique opportunity for students.  As many of you know, there has been alot of discussion and movement toward changes within the RC profession.  In response to these changes, ARCA hasexpressed an emphasis on the need to develop and maintain the professionalidentity of rehabilitation counselors in order to prevent further fragmentationwithin the profession.  It is thehope that by raising awareness within the profession, we can educate otherprofessionals, as well as society about the unique contribution ofrehabilitation counselors.  Webelieve that one way to accomplish this goal is to start with the futureprofessionals:  the students.  Students provide a fresh perspectivethat may be invaluable to the future of the profession.  With this vision, ARCA has announcedthe Understand Rehabilitation Counseling program.  This program will allow students the opportunity to usetheir creativity to develop a plan to increase the number of people whounderstand rehabilitation counseling. I am attaching a copy of the most recent ARCA newsletter, which outlinesthe specifics of the program (on page 3). I request that you please pass this information on to any interestedstudents.
We hope students will take advantage of this opportunity andlook forward to seeing some positive outcomes for the profession based onstudent involvement.
