College of Health Sciences
The University of Texas at El Paso

The University of Texas at El Paso, College of Health Sciences invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of the Master of Rehabilitation Counseling (MRC) Degree Program (tenured or tenure-track position) from talented and experienced national leaders who will cultivate excellence in research, teaching, and service. The appointment and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities: The Director will provide leadership to the graduate program in Rehabilitation Counseling within a well-established and growing Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and participate in new program development in the department and College. The Director will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and administration of the MRC graduate program, including guiding the program through the Council on Rehabilitation Education re-accreditation process, establishing new community internship sites, responding to regional community needs through an interactive advisory structure, and providing regional leadership with partners in the rehabilitation and disability community. The Director will be expected to establish an independent, externally-funded research program in his/her specialty area, mentor graduate students, carry a limited teaching load and perform university service and community outreach.

Qualifications: Required qualifications include (1) an earned doctoral degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Rehabilitation Psychology, or a closely-related field from an accredited university; (2) current CRC certification (Certified Rehabilitation Counselor); (3) a strong record of teaching excellence and academic scholarship as demonstrated by research publications and the ability to secure extramural research funding consistent with appointment to assistant, associate (tenured or tenure-track) or professor with tenure; (4) evidence of successful leadership and resource management experience in a U.S. higher education setting; (5) record of active participation or leadership roles in professional organizations; (6) experience with CORE (Council on Rehabilitation Education) program accreditation; and (7) demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Candidates with a strong collaborative record of research in rehabilitation counseling, prior work experience in a multi-cultural setting, and a Hispanic and/or border health research focus are encouraged to apply.

A cadre of graduate students assists faculty in conducting a variety of projects relevant to improving health outcomes in the U.S.-Mexico border region. The program is housed in the newly renovated Campbell Building, with dedicated clinical and rehabilitation sciences teaching laboratory space. In addition, a new 138,000 sq. ft. building on the main campus houses state-of-the-art clinical and research laboratories, and innovative teaching and clinical simulation spaces.
