The appointment and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.<br> <br><strong>Responsibilities:</strong> The Director will provide leadership to the graduate program in Rehabilitation Counseling within a well-established and growing Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and participate in new program development in the department and College. The Director will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and administration of the MRC graduate program, including guiding the program through the Council on Rehabilitation Education re-accreditation process, establishing new community internship sites, responding to regional community needs through an interactive advisory structure, and providing regional leadership with partners in the rehabilitation and disability community. The Director will be expected to establish an independent, externally-funded research program in his/her specialty area, mentor graduate students, carry a limited teaching load and perform university service and community outreach.<br> <br><strong>Qualifications:</strong> Required qualifications include (1) an earned doctoral degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Rehabilitation Psychology, or a closely-related field from an accredited university; (2) current CRC certification (Certified Rehabilitation Counselor); (3) a strong record of teaching excellence and academic scholarship as demonstrated by research publications and the ability to secure extramural research funding consistent with appointment to assistant, associate (tenured or tenure-track) or professor with tenure; (4) evidence of successful leadership and resource management experience in a U.S. higher education setting; (5) record of active participation or leadership roles in professional organizations; (6) experience with CORE (Council on Rehabilitation Education) program accreditation; and (7) demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Candidates with a strong collaborative record of research in rehabilitation counseling, prior work experience in a multi-cultural setting, and a Hispanic and/or border health research focus are encouraged to apply.<br> <br><strong>The Department:</strong> The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences currently includes four academic units, all of which offer a graduate degree: Occupational Therapy (MOT), Physical Therapy (DPT), Rehabilitation Counseling (MRC), and Speech Language Pathology (MS in SLP). The new Rehabilitation Counseling program is entering the third year of Candidate status for CORE accreditation. A pre-professional undergraduate degree in Health and Rehabilitation is being planned. Departmental faculty members actively participate in the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences PhD Program, which is jointly administered by the College of Health Sciences and School of Nursing. The department has approximately 130 graduate students and 16 full-time faculty members, who are widely recognized for their research and teaching on rehabilitation sciences in a Hispanic border context.<br> <br><strong>The College:</strong> The College of Health Sciences provides teaching, research, and service related to the applied health sciences (<a href="http://ncre.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d5a2da3c1a53350f31f65bdb3&id=5d1b95f2fc&e=6285364a67"><strong>chs.utep.edu</strong></a>). It has five departments (Clinical Laboratory Science, Kinesiology, Public Health Sciences, Rehabilitation Sciences, and Social Work), a cooperative Pharmacy program with the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy, and a collaborative relationship with the University of Texas at Houston School of Public Health-El Paso regional campus. Strong collaborative ties also exist with the UTEP School of Nursing, the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and Paul L. Foster School of Medicine in El Paso. The College is staffed by over 60 full-time faculty members, serves 2000 students, and is nationally recognized for its innovative research in border health, and Hispanic health and health disparities. It has a record of success with NIH and external health research funding. The College was awarded $7.6 million in external funding during the past three years for its innovative health research projects. College faculty conduct research that spans basic and clinical science, from community to global health. The breadth of their research expertise includes health education and promotion, health literacy, chronic and communicable disease prevention and management, maternal-child health, nutrition, exercise science, disability and rehabilitation sciences, social stigma, and mental health. A cadre of graduate students assists faculty in conducting a variety of projects relevant to improving health outcomes in the U.S.-Mexico border region. The program is housed in the newly renovated Campbell Building, with dedicated clinical and rehabilitation sciences teaching laboratory space. In addition, a new 138,000 sq. ft. building on the main campus houses state-of-the-art clinical and research laboratories, and innovative teaching and clinical simulation spaces.<br><br><strong>The University:</strong> The University of Texas at El Paso is an emerging national research university at the heart of the U.S.-Mexico border region committed to the ideals of access and excellence.
