POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Position Available:  Assistant/Associate Professor -- tenure eligible (Counselor Education; Rehabilitation and Human Services)

Beginning:  Fall Semester, 2013

Appointment Conditions

Applicants should have a promising record of teaching, research, and clinical supervision, along with a primary professional identity as a rehabilitation counselor educator.  The College has identified several areas of priority for this search, including counseling persons with disabilities and, in particular, veterans with disabilities; multicultural counseling; rehabilitation technology, proprietary rehabilitation and client assessment. This position is a tenure track, 36-week appointment with the possibility of supplementary summer appointments in teaching.  Full University benefits apply. Responsibilities

 *   Teach undergraduate courses in the Rehabilitation and Human Services (RHS) program and graduate courses in the Counselor Education master's and doctoral degree programs.

 *   Conduct a systematic program of research and participate in and, where appropriate, lead or participate in efforts to secure external grant funding.

 *   Advise undergraduate students in Rehabilitation and Human Services, master’s students in the Rehabilitation Counseling emphasis, and doctoral students in Counselor Education.

 *   Serve on Department, College, and University Committees as appropriate.

Required Qualifications

 *   Earned doctorate in Counselor Education or a closely related field with an emphasis in Rehabilitation Counseling;

 *   Earned certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor or demonstrated eligibility for this certification;

 *   Evidence of a commitment to developing a significant program of research, commensurate with experience;

 *   Evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching and advising including a willingness to consider teaching in online environments, where appropriate, along with an interest in the use of modern technology, commensurate with experience;

 *   Evidence of a commitment to working collegially and with individuals from diverse backgrounds, commensurate with experience.

Desirable Qualifications

 *   Expertise in one or more of the following areas: counseling persons with disabilities and/or family members and, in particular, veterans with disabilities, multicultural counseling, proprietary rehabilitation, school to work transition, rehabilitation technology, or client assessment.

 *   Experience teaching and advising in higher education.

 *   Experience in securing external funding.

Department of Educational Psychology, Counseling, and Special Education

The Department is made up of four program areas all unified by a strong focus on training culturally competent and ethical professionals. The Counselor Education program is consistently ranked in the top 10 by U.S. News & World Report, and the Counselor Education faculty was ranked first by the Chronicle of Higher Education in terms of faculty scholarly productivity. The CORE-accredited Rehabilitation Counseling emphasis is ranked fourth in the nation. The Counselor Education programs—which include a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision (CACREP-accredited), and master’s degree emphases in Career Counseling (currently under CACREP review), Clinical Mental Health Counseling in Schools and Communities (currently under CACREP review), Rehabilitation Counseling (CORE-accredited), and Elementary and Secondary School Counseling (CACREP-accredited)—emphasizes the importance of integrating the applications of counseling with high levels of scholarship, a service commitment to the profession, and commitment to contributing to a multicultural society. Rehabilitation and Human Services was the first undergraduate program started in the United States in 1954 and it also has a long history of outstanding professional accomplishments by both faculty and graduates.
