TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION
The Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation is seeking outstanding candidates to fill a tenure track Assistant Professor in Rehabilitation Counselor Education.  Those with expertise in transition services and/or behavioral interventions for persons with disabilities are particularly encouraged to apply.

Program:
The Rehabilitation Counseling Master’s Program at USU is ranked 9th in the nation by the U.S. News and World Report. The master’s program graduates rehabilitation professionals who work with individuals with physical, cognitive, and psychiatric disabilities. We have both an on-campus and a distance program and work closely with state/federal vocational rehabilitation agencies and RSA. The distance education program is a hybrid of synchronous and asynchronous learning via internet during the academic year, and on-campus classes in Logan during the summer. This program graduates approximately 25-30 students with master's degrees each year. Current enrollment in the master’s program is 80 (split between distance and on-campus students). Ninety-four percent of the graduates pass the CRC exam on the first attempt and are placed in rehabilitation counselor positions. The Rehabilitation Counseling program is fully accredited by the Council on Rehabilitation Education through 2017. Masters students in the Rehabilitation Counseling Program are supported by RSA CSPD Training and RSA Master’s Long-Term Training Grants.

Rehabilitation counseling faculty participate in the multidisciplinary, Disability Disciplines Doctoral (Ph.D.) program. This program includes a specialization in Rehabilitation Counseling.  Other specializations include Disability Studies, Special Education, Applied Behavior Analysis with individuals with disabilities, and Speech and Language pathology. Currently, students in the Rehabilitation Counseling specialization  are supported through a RSA Doctoral Training Grant.

USU also houses the National Clearinghouse of Rehabilitation Training Materials, a national dissemination project funded by the Rehabilitation Services Administration in the Department of Education. Students and faculty participate in clinical services and intervention research through the EmployAbility Clinic, which provides employment services to individuals with disabilities in the community.

Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation:
The Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation is located in the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services. The department consists of both on campus and distance based educational programs in Rehabilitation Counseling (Master’s), Special Education (Undergraduate and Master’s), Alternative Teacher Preparation Programs, and the Ph.D. in Disability Disciplines. Faculty value a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to disability across the lifespan.

Faculty have the opportunity to work with state rehabilitation organizations, and on-campus programs such as: The Center for Persons with Disabilities (a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities), numerous grant-funded projects, The Utah Assistive Technology Program, The National Center on Disability and Access to Education (NCDAE), Autism Support Services - Education Research, and Training (ASSERT), Project PEER (a post secondary, university-based transition program for young adults with disabilities) Technology, Research, & Innovation in Special Education (TRI-SPED), Edith Bowen Laboratory School.

The College and University
Utah State University (USU), a land-grant university, is ranked by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a research university with “high research activity.” It is in the top 3% of higher education institutions in the country. USU received $213 million in research awards during the 2011 fiscal year, a record 43% increase over funding in 2009. Enrollment (undergraduate and graduate students) exceeds 25,000.  There are 41 schools and departments in eight academic colleges and a School of Graduate Studies that offers 38 doctoral degrees and 96 master’s degrees. USU has a national and international reputation for its education, agricultural, aerospace-engineering, and natural resources academic programs. USU is especially well known for disability-related research and development that reflects work within several academic departments and The Center for Persons with Disabilities. The Center for Persons with Disabilities, a Center of Excellence sponsored by the Administration on Developmental Disabilities in the U.S. Department of Education, houses disability projects budgeted at over 12 million dollars annually. The College of Education and Human Services is ranked 5th nationally in external funding with over $33 million in external grants and contracts (US News and World Report, 2011). It is one of the largest colleges of education in the nation, with six departments, a School of Teacher Education and Leadership, an elementary laboratory school, over 115 tenure-track faculty, and hundreds of research-supported employees.

Location:
Logan is a community of 60,000 located in Cache Valley in the mountains of northern Utah, 80 miles north of Salt Lake City. It is at the mouth of Logan Canyon, a scenic gateway to a wide variety of recreational opportunities. There are forest service campgrounds and extensive fishing, hunting, biking, and hiking opportunities within a few miles of campus. Bear Lake (a large, multiuse recreational lake on the Utah / Idaho border) is just 40 miles away through Logan Canyon. Skiing is available within a few miles of campus. The city schools have a reputation of being strong academically and are well situated throughout the valley. Housing costs are moderate. Logan boasts a large regional hospital and excellent medical and dental care services.

Rank/Salary:
Assistant Professor - Salary is competitive based on qualifications. An excellent fringe benefit package is provided that includes medical and disability insurance and retirement benefits that amount to approximately one third of the salary.

Responsibilities
Serve as a member of the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation faculty; this entails:
1. Developing an active line of research
2. Teaching on-campus and distance graduate classes in the Rehabilitation Counselor Education Masters program and the Disability Disciplines Doctoral Program
3. Summer teaching
4. Advising and mentoring graduate students
5. Participating in department and university program development and committees
6. Collaborating with other department faculty in writing grants for extramural funding
7. Publication in refereed journals

Minimum Qualifications
1. Doctorate (ABD may be considered) in Rehabilitation Counseling or related field (e.g., psychology, counseling psychology, or disability studies).
2. The candidate must be a certified rehabilitation counselor (CRC) or CRC-eligible, and eligible for licensure within the State of Utah as a Licensed Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (LVRC), or as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) within one year.
3. Experience working with people with disabilities,
4. A history of positive working relationships with rehabilitation professionals and faculty
5. Evidence of the potential to be a productive scholar and researcher
6. Evidence of the potential to be an excellent college-level teacher.

 Preferred Qualifications
1.        Expertise in transition services for adolescents with disabilities,
2.        Experience providing behavior interventions and skills training in employment settings (BCBA Certification),
3.        Experience supervising practicum and internship students,
4.        Strong quantitative research skills,
5.        Experience teaching in a distance education program.
