TheUniversity of Maine invites applications for an academic year, tenure-track AssistantProfessor of Counselor Education in the College of Education and HumanDevelopment beginning September 1, 2013.
 
Responsibilities: The Counselor Educationprogram is seeking a colleague committed to excellence in research,scholarship, and teaching. We seek a person with strong leadership andmentoring skills for the following:
 
1)     Masters level Mental Health Counseling Program 
2)     Masters level School Counseling Program
3)     Certificate of Advanced Studies Program
4)     Doctoral Program for Counselor Educators 
 
Thesuccessful candidate will be committed to a program moving towards greatervisibility with a highly competitive research agenda.  Duties include teaching core courses,providing supervision of counseling practica/internships, academic advising,and mentoring doctoral students in research and teaching.  The successful candidate will have an activeresearch agenda leading to publications, potential grants, and conferencepresentations.  The University of Maineaspires to be the most distinctively student centered and community engaged ofthe American Research Universities.  Assuch, the College of Education and Human Development is strongly committed to leadingthrough research, innovation and engagement. We are seeking colleagues who will provide service and leadership atlocal, state and national levels.  Givenour statewide commitment, some teaching may be off-site and/or use distancetechnologies.
            
Qualifications: Ph.D./Ed.D in counseling orclosely related field required by date of hire with degree from CACREP-accreditedprogram preferred.  Candidates must belicensed or license-eligible as a clinical mental health professional in the Stateof Maine.  Evidence of strong potentialfor high quality scholarship, research, and college teaching required.  Eligibility for certification as a schoolcounselor and/or expertise in school counseling, clinical and administrativeexperience in a university counseling clinic, and familiarity with CACREPaccreditation process are highly desirable.  Other preferredqualifications/areas of interest include multicultural counseling, family andmarriage counseling, trauma-informed treatment modalities, in-home counselingmodalities, and familiarity with the use of distance educationtechnologies.  We seek a candidate withideas and professional experiences that have implications for the future of thecounseling profession as a whole, in schools and in the private sector.
