Posting Date: October 22, 2012 Deadline Date: Position is open until filled; yet applicants are encouraged to submit a complete application by January 10, 2013 when review of the applications will begin.
Position: Assistant/Associate Professor in Rehabilitation Counseling - Tenure-Track (Located at either main campus or Rio Rancho Campus)
Department: Counseling Department
Rate: Minimum Starting $ 46,400.00

SUMMARY: Responsible for providing valuable contributions to the ongoing growth and development of a quality university major in Counseling, at the graduate level, through excellence in teaching, research, mentoring and advising.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Faculty contractual duties include, but are not limited to:

 *   Teach a full load equivalent to four courses (12 credit hours) per semester or eight (24 credit hours) per academic year;
 *   May be assigned to teach evening and/or Saturday classes, courses via ITV, and/or develop and teach WEB CT courses.
 *   Hold office hours as required;
 *   Advise students on academic and vocational curricula;
 *   Direct student research, independent study etc.,
 *   Serve on faculty and committees;
 *   Conduct scholarly activities such as research in a particular field of knowledge and publish findings in professional journals;
 *   Supervise approximately six (6) internship students each semester;
 *   May supervise work-study students;
 *   Maintain regular attendance;
 *   Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:
Doctorate in Counselor Education (ABD within one year of completing doctorate will be considered)

EXPERIENCE:
Graduate level teaching experience in Counseling, demonstrated ability for publishable research, and a record of community and university service.

In addition to the minimum qualifications, preference will be given to the following:

 *   Teaching and student advisement experience at the graduate levels;
 *   Experience with non -traditional, and culturally diverse student populations characteristic of the southwestern United States;
 *   Eligibility for the LPCC license in the state of New Mexico
 *   Experience with Distance and Technology Education delivery systems
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Applicant should possess or be eligible for a Rehabilitation Counselor Certificate (CRC).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 *   Skill and expertise in the classroom.
 *   Ability to demonstrate commitment to the counseling profession and show expertise in Rehabilitation Counseling;
 *   Ability to represent the Counseling & Guidance program to the community in a professional way and be innovative in designing ways that the program can interact with the community;
 *   Ability to work well as a team player with the other Counseling faculty in creating and maintain a strong counselor training program by offering expertise in an area of specialization;
 *   Ability to show evidence of having taught with optimal and high quality outcomes that will add to and reflect the overall quality of higher education in the School of Education at New Mexico Highlands University;
 *   Ability in the use of technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy.
 *   Ability to work effectively with a culturally-diverse student body.
 *   Ability to develop effective methodology for the integration of teaching and research.
 *   Ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Minimal physical requirements.

WORK ENVIROMENT:
Work is performed in an office/classroom setting.
