> The Department of Counseling seeks a faculty applicant committed to counselor education and training. Candidates must demonstrate potential for competency in teaching, scholarship, and program leadership. Experience with ethnically and linguistically diverse populations and multidisciplinary approaches and strong connection with the school counseling field is preferred. The position is for teaching in the CACREP-approved School Counseling and Mental Health Counseling programs. Fluency in ASL is highly desirable; willingness to develop outstanding ASL skills in accordance with the Gallaudet Faculty Guidelines is mandatory prior to promotion and tenure.
> Qualifications:
> 1. An earned doctorate in counseling or closely related field. Exceptional candidates with doctoral degrees in progress will be considered.
> 2. At least three years of counseling experience, with deaf and/or hard of hearing individuals, in School Counseling and/or Mental Health settings.
> 3. Knowledge and skills in content relevant to the applicant’s specialization.
> 4. Experience with new or prospective counselors in practicum or mentoring relationships desire.
> 5. Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is strongly desired. If the applicant is not already proficient, a new faculty member must develop proficiency in ASL in accordance with Gallaudet’s faculty guidelines.
> 6. Potential for competency in teaching, scholarship, and service.
> 7. Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills.
> Responsibilities:
> 1. Teach courses in School Counseling/Mental Health Counseling.
> 2. Supervise students in practica settings and provide academic advising and professional mentoring.
> 3. Work collaboratively with faculty members.
> 4. Engage in scholarship, including research and program development.
> 5. Participate in department and university faculty activities and professional service.
> 6. Grant writing and/or other department responsibilities as assigned.
> Compensation:
> Instructor or Assistant Professor. Rank and salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. The appointment will be for a regular nine-month academic year.
