POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT


Appointment: The Department of Counselor Education within the College of Education and Human Services seeks to fill a Unit A (tenure-track) 9 month position for an Assistant Professor in Counselor Education located on the Quad Cities Campus beginning August 16th, 2012.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited program by the time of appointment. Evidence of successful teaching experience in Counselor Education is required. Candidates must also have post-masters experience in one of the following areas: school counseling or community/clinical mental health counseling. Candidates must be eligible for licensure as a licensed clinical professional counselor or a licensed professional counselor in the State of Illinois as well as exhibit potential for scholarly activities.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: We are particularly interested in candidates with work experience as a school counselor or demonstrated interest in school counseling. The ability to work collaboratively in research/scholarly activities is also important. A strong background in the areas of clinical teaching and supervision is preferred.


RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a Unit A (Tenure-track) full-time, nine month position in Counselor Education. Teaching assignments include supervision of practicum and internship experiences for master's level graduate students in both CACREP accredited School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling specialty tracks. Assignments also include the advisement of graduate students. Scholarly/professional activity is expected, as well as active collaboration with a multidisciplinary faculty. Summer teaching may be available.

THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Counselor Education consists of six full time faculty members at the Quad Cities campus in Moline Illinois. The department currently offers a M.S.Ed. in Counseling with CACREP-accredited programs in school and clinical mental health counseling. WIU Quad Cities is WIU's first permanent off-campus facility and the only public university offering graduate programs in the Quad Cities area. The WIU Quad Cities campus offers 13 post baccalaureate certificate programs, 15 graduate programs, and an educational specialist program. WIU Quad Cities is currently staffed by interdisciplinary studies, elementary education, law enforcement and justice administration, management, marketing, reading, special education, and recreation, park and tourism administration.
