Western Kentucky University invites applications for two tenure track Assistant Professor positions in School Counseling in the Department of Counseling and Student Affairs in the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences. The starting date is August 15, 2012. The university is located in Bowling Green, KY with over 20,000 students. WKU is conveniently located approximately 50 miles from the metro Nashville, TN area.


The Department offers master's degree programs in School Counseling, Student Affairs, Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy. Currently, all programs are designed to be compliant with CACREP's 2009 Standards and the self-study process has commenced. Ransdell Hall and allied with the Clinical Education Complex on campus. The Department is committed to providing clinical service to the community and conducting clinical research. Programs are offered at the main campus and cohort programs are provided at two regional campus sites. Courses employ various delivery modalities.

Responsibilities include teaching, research, and service. The candidates selected for the positions will be expected to provide outstanding instruction, maintain an active record of research and publication, and participate in professional service. Successful candidates will teach School Counseling courses such as Introduction to Counseling, Seminar in School Counseling, Administration of Counseling Services, and Classroom Guidance; CACREP core courses; supervise practicum and internship; and develop collaborative relationships with local school systems. All faculty members are expected to fulfill advising responsibilities within the Department.

Requirements are a doctorate from a CACREP accredited counselor education and supervision program with an emphasis in School Counseling, involvement and service in organizations associated with School Counseling and Counselor Education, school counseling experience, and demonstrated potential for scholarly productivity.
