The Counseling, Educational and Developmental Psychology Department at Eastern Washington University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the Counselor Education Program to begin September 2011. The Counselor Education Program at Eastern Washington University is committed to the selection, training, supervision, and professional success of counseling students, in keeping with the high standards established by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The program offers a structured sequence of curricular and clinical experiences, with an emphasis on closely supervised training experiences both at the University and in the community. During their training, students contribute over 15,000 hours each year in direct service at community mental health agencies, local schools, hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, and community agencies.
Eastern has a proud history of providing education to a high percentage of first generation college students, often from under-represented and lower socioeconomic communities, a tradition which the Counselor Education program maintains. Thus, counselor training occurs in a learning community that is intentionally focused on both skills development and personal growth of the counselor-in-training. In this way, Counselor Education fulfills its purpose of preparing competent and caring professional counselors to meet the needs of diverse urban and rural communities. The selected candidate will join a committed and enthusiastic counselor educator faculty.
Responsibilities
• Teach in the school counseling emphasis of the Counselor Education Program
• Teach courses in the CACREP core
• Supervise practicum courses and internships
• Teach other courses in the undergraduate program as assigned by the Chair of the Department
• Participate in the leadership of local, state and regional professional organizations
• Continue a productive scholarship program
• Pursue research funding through grant development
• Mentor student research
• Collaborate with colleagues in utilization of creativity and best practice knowledge in curriculum development, classroom instruction, and student supervision
• Provide Department, College, University, and local community service
Qualifications
• Ph.D. in Counselor Education, preferably from a CACREP accredited program; ABD candidates may be
considered (PhD must be conferred by 1/1/2012 for this position which begins 9/17/2011);
• Experience in School Counseling
• Holds a current school counselor certificate or is certificate eligible as a certified school counselor in
the state of Washington; certificate eligible candidates must obtain certification no later than
9/17/2012 (one year following start date)
• Successful teaching experience at the college or university level
• Competent with and experienced using instructional technology
• Demonstrated high degree of interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency
and/or diversity;
