Assistant/Associate Professor of Counseling Psychology or School Counseling
Assistant Professor of Counseling Psychology

The School of Education at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) announces two tenure-track faculty positions in Counseling and Educational Psychology beginning in fall 2012. Faculty in the Division of Counseling and Educational Psychology (CEP) deliver an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited Ph.D. program in Counseling Psychology, and Educational Specialist and Master's programs in Counseling and Guidance. The Master's program has emphasis areas in school, couples and family, mental health, and gerontological counseling. The Educational Specialist has emphasis areas in school counseling and general mental health.
The individuals selected for the positions will join a collaborative and dedicated faculty who emphasize excellence in education at all levels in the context of the School of Education's commitment to urban schools and healthy urban communities. We seek individuals whose interests and expertise fit with our School's emphasis on diversity and social justice; skills and teaching experience in psychological assessment are highly desirable. One of these appointments may be filled by an individual with interests in School Counseling, with particular emphasis on interventions in urban school settings.
The scholars filling these position will conduct and establish research and publication programs in areas of interest consistent with our Division's philosophy; participate in program development and innovation; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in counseling; advise graduate students; supervise doctoral students' research; participate actively in local, state, and national professional organizations; and contribute to the service missions of the School of Education and the university. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Major Responsibilities:
* Teach undergraduate and graduate coursework.
* Supervise counseling practica.
* Establish a significant externally fundable program of research informing the field of Counseling Psychology or School Counseling that also advances the School's mission of urban education and its social justice, diversity and democracy values.
* Supervise doctoral students' research
* Engage in School, campus, and university committee activities while also participating in community service activities in the greater Kansas City community aligned with the School's mission.
*          Actively participate in local, state, and national professional organizations.

Minimum Qualifications:
* An earned doctorate in Counseling Psychology or Counselor Education.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to urban issues.
* Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with others.
* Demonstrated potential for leadership.
* Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
* Demonstrated grant productivity and scholarship. If applying at the assistant professor level, demonstrated significant potential for grant productivity and scholarship.
* Demonstrated commitment in national/professional organizations and local community service.
* Demonstrated experience and interest in conducting research in urban settings and/or with diverse populations.
* An established scholarly and professional record in an appropriate field consistent with university promotion and tenure guidelines.
* Licensed or license-eligible in the state of Missouri.
